Issue Description

For some installations of Analyst® 1.6.3 software with MS Office 2013, the option to import .xlsx files is showing, while on other computers where Analyst installed importing .xlsx files is not an option.

Resolution

Investigation of this issue shows that the option to import .xlsx files into Analyst® software is only available when Microsoft Office 32-bit is installed on a Win 7 (32- or 64-bit) operating system. If Microsoft Office, 64-bit is installed, then the .xlsx files cannot be used.

Analyst software is 32-bit application, and if it is installed on Win 7 64-bit (with Office 64-bit) ,there is no possibility for Analyst to talk with the open database connectivity (ODBC) due to the 64-bit format that provides the .xlsx format.

Files saved in the following formats are recommended for use with Analyst when importing information to create a batch file: .xls, .csv  and .txt. A file with an .xlsx format can always be saved as .xls.

It is not recommended that Office 32-bit be installed on a Win 7 64-bit operating system that will host other SCIEX software applications. Many of these programs (including MultiQuant, Cliquid, LibraryView, MasterView, and BioPharmaView software) require Microsoft Office 64-bit for installation on a Win 7 64-bit system.
