Lipidomics

Empowering lipidomics researchers to unlock the intricate world of lipids.

Untangling the intricacies of the lipidome

Overcoming the challenges of lipid analysis

Lipidomics research enhances our understanding of lipid biology and its implications for human health, disease and environmental interactions. By elucidating the intricate role of lipids within biological systems, lipidomics contributes to the development of innovative diagnostic tools, therapeutic approaches and preventative strategies, all geared towards enhancing public health and overall well-being.

There are persistent hurdles to cross when identifying and quantifying diverse lipid classes and species in complex biological samples, and overcoming these obstacles is crucial.

SCIEX LC-MS/MS solutions empower researchers to delve into the lipidome to meticulously characterize subtle distinctions between lipid species and screen similar compounds with enhanced clarity and confidence. Our mass spectrometry portfolio provides powerful tools that deliver precise and comprehensive insights into the intricate realm of lipids. Uncover their complexities with confidence through our advanced technology.

Workflow

Targeted identification and quantitation

Comprehensive lipid profiling analysis

SCIEX solutions for targeted lipidomics are built using proven technology that delivers highly accurate, selective, sensitive and reproducible quantitation.

The SCIEX Triple Quad 6500+ system and the SCIEX 7500 system target thousands of lipids in a single experiment, rapidly switching between positive-ion and negative-ion mode to quantify potential biomarkers and elucidate metabolism at the lipid level.

Equipped with electron activated dissociation (EAD) technology, the ZenoTOF 7600 system enables full characterization of lipid species, all within a single experiment, and supports:

  • The speed, sensitivity and dynamic range required for large-scale quantitative lipid profiling
  • The characterization and structural elucidation of lipid species using EAD

Workflow

Untargeted lipidomics

Understanding lipid biology with discovery and translational lipidomics

SCIEX solutions for untargeted lipidomics have the power to fully characterize subtle differences between lipid species and screen more compounds with better clarity. The unique electron activated dissociation (EAD) fragmentation technology available on the ZenoTOF 7600 system enables the complete characterization of a lipid species, within a single MS/MS experiment, and supports:

  • Comprehensive and reproducible mapping of lipid species for the discovery of even low-level differentially regulated lipids
  • Precise and unambiguous structural elucidation of lipids using EAD

Workflow

Improve selectivity with differential ion mobility

Accurate lipid quantitation requires distinguishing the target lipid species from isomers, interferences and background. The SelexION device adds an orthogonal strategy for separation of isobaric and isomeric species and supports:

  • Gas phase separation of the lipid classes prior to the MS/MS analysis
  • Easy installation by the user in minutes
  • Coupling with flow injection analysis (FIA) or chromatographic workflows (HPLC, UHPLC)
  • Optional chemical modifiers to further increase the separation power, enabling the targeting of even the most difficult-to-resolve lipid isomers
