What are the advantages of XCMS Plus vs. using the online version of XCMS?

The main benefit of XCMSplus (desktop version) over the online version is speed. As you can see below, based off a fairly typical study size of 40 IDA TripleTOF data files (~3.2 GB) processing using XCMSplus increases your processing speed 24 times! The desktop solution allows for local processing, therefore, speeds up the whole process.

  • XCMS Online: Upload time for XCMS Online: ~4-6 hours, processing time for XCMS Online: ~16-18 hours (total ~ 24 hours)
  • XCMSplus: ~1 minute, processing time for XCMSplus: ~30-45 minutes (total ~ 1 hour)
