Bisphenol A (BPA) is widely used in high-production volume manufacturing of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Current studies evaluating the impact of BPA on health and the environment have not reported conclusive results. Octylphenol (OP) and nonylphenol (NP) are degradation products of alkylphenol ethoxylates, a family of nonionic surfactants widely used in consumer and institutional cleaning products. The estrogenic and toxic effects of OP and NP have been well-studied and reported.
By using ultra high performance Rapid Separation (RS) LC-MS/MS, BPA, OP and NP in water samples can be analyzed much more rapidly than using a labor intensive sample derivatization GC-MS method. This RSLC-MS/MS method has a significantly shorter run time of just 5 minutes compared to 25 minutes using GCMS technology, and uses a small particle size 2.2µm analytical column to provide robust and reproducible high throughput analysis.
