Answer

SCIEX OS generates three types of wiff files: .wiff2 / .wiff / .wiff.scan. The software stores TIC and method data in .wiff2 and .wiff files. The .wiff.scan file is used to store spectral data. SCIEX OS generates both a .wiff2 and .wiff file so that the acquired data can also be reprocessed in Analyst® and MultiQuant, as these two softwares are unable to use .wiff2 files.

The lists below indicates the impact of deleting the .wiff/.wiff.scan files when using the SCIEX OS software.

List of features available in SCIEX OS if the .wiff file is deleted and only the .wiff2 and .wiff.scan files are used:

  • Data can be opened in the explore section of SCIEX OS.
  • A new results table can be created in SCIEX OS from raw data.
  • A previously saved results table can be opened and it's possible to view the chromatograms from those results tables in SCIEX OS.
