Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Austria

The Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC was transposed through an amendment to the Austrian Waste Act, introducing the framework of producer responsibility obligations for the different battery types, which was published in April 2008. A new ‘Ordinance on the Prevention, Collection and Treatment of Waste Batteries and Accumulators’ followed on 15 May 2008.

Producers of portable batteries must join a collective system. SCIEX has joined batteries compliance scheme Elektro Recycling Austria (ERA) to manage all aspects of batteries collection and recycling in Austria.
