There are two key items of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) legislation in Hungary:
Under the Hungarian WEEE Management Decree (as amended) for equipment that you buy from SCIEX after August 13th 2005, SCIEX is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from SCIEX replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the WEEE Management Decree, SCIEX is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from SCIEX after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
To meet SCIEX’s obligations to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of electrical and electronic equipment, SCIEX pays a Product Fee to the Hungarian National Tax and Customs Authority. Under the Environmental Product Fee Act LXXXV of 2011, this fee is used in part to fund a single state-owned selective waste management coordination authority; the National Environment and Nature Protection Inspectorate (OKTF). OKTF organises the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of equipment the SCIEX is obligated for at end-of-life.
For further information on how you can arrange recycling of SCIEX equipment at end-of-life, please contact OKTF.
