Introducing novel mass spectrometry techniques and their applications for environmental analysis

Over the past two years, SCIEX has introduced several pioneering new technologies in the field of liquid-based mass spectrometry, including solutions for very high throughput routines and cutting edge research and analysis.

In this seminar, we will briefly describe the latest technologies and show their performance using examples of real-world applications created with researchers from leading regulatory testing and research laboratories. We aim to demonstrate how these new technologies can change the landscape of environmental analysis and bring sensitive, accurate and fast analysis into routine use.

Main takeaways:

  • Introduction to latest LC-MS/MS technologies
  • Overview of environmental applications including PFAS and PPCPs
  • Demonstration of novel workflow-based SCIEX OS software

Speakers:

Dr. Thomas Miller, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Sciences, Brunel University London

An interdisciplinary scientist with a background in biology and analytical chemistry, Tom’s research interests are focused on the impact of chemicals in the environment and the interaction this chemical stress has with other environmental stressors. His expertise lies in small molecule mass spectrometry to determine chemicals found in the environment (especially in wildlife) and to determine biomarkers and pathways associated with adverse effects in exposed organisms. He is also interested in the integration of artificial intelligence within environmental toxicology to support and solve different environmental challenges.

Jianru Stahl-Zeng, PhD, Senior Technical Marketing Manager EMEAI, SCIEX

Jianru has been part of SCIEX since 2001. She initially was part of our application support team and covered not only proteomics but also small molecules applications. Jianru moved to technical marketing and focused on Food and Environmental applications. Since 2018 she is managing EMEA technical marketing team and projects. Jianru is also the Global Technical Leader for Food& Environmental application.

Daniel McMillan, Senior Market Development Manager EMEAI, SCIEX

Dan has been working in the MS industry for over 25 years as an instrument and applications specialist and is now responsible for developing the food, environmental and forensic markets throughout the EMEAI region. He has worked with major research and regulatory organisations to develop new applications in line with legislation, primarily in the area of contaminant analysis. Changes requirements and challenges facing laboratories are constantly evolving, and Dan’s role is now primarily to ensure SCIEX produce and promote relevant solutions to meet their demands.
