Keeping your SCIEX LC-MS system tuned and calibrated regularly reduces the risk of inaccurate analytical results, subsequent incorrect decisions and potential waste and rework.
Keeping your SCIEX LC-MS system tuned and calibrated regularly reduces the risk of inaccurate analytical results, subsequent incorrect decisions and potential waste and rework.
Instrument performance is the backbone of accurate and reliable test results in any laboratory. But how do you ensure that your mass spectrometry system always performs at its best? The answer lies in two crucial practices: calibration and preventive maintenance. They are essential steps that can significantly impact your mass spec system's efficiency, accuracy and longevity.
In a busy lab like yours, mass spectrometry systems are used frequently—sometimes nonstop. Over time, wear and tear, environmental factors and repeated usage can cause instruments to drift out of optimal performance. Even the slightest deviation can lead to inaccurate analytical results when this happens. Regular calibration and preventive maintenance are vital to keeping your LC-MS systems performing as expected, ensuring that results are reliable and meet regulatory standards.
The traditional analytical instrument service and maintenance approach requires a technician or engineer to be on-site to understand the instrument condition, assess a problem or perform the necessary work. Remote diagnostic and support services offer an efficient alternative in a constantly evolving environment, with new technologies, equipment and standards being introduced.
Remote Instrument Optimization and Calibration service from SCIEX helps you stay on top of these changes, ensuring that your lab remains efficient, compliant and ready for any challenges.
Leverage SCIEX specialists' expertise to prevent incidents before they cost you time and money.
The Remote Instrument Optimization and Calibration procedure, carried out by one of our certified field service engineers, at a time that suits your schedule:
Make informed decisions with input from SCIEX. Remote tools give you convenient access to specialized expertise. This can be crucial for optimizing instrument performance during staff shortages, when workloads and the need to handle complex and time-sensitive tasks are high.
Move forward with projects, knowing your instrument is calibrated and performing well. With the confidence that your mass spec is optimized, you can achieve reliable, high-quality data essential for scientific research, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
Avoid foreseeable downtime. While SCIEX LC-MS systems have exceptional uptime, regular performance evaluations can help identify and resolve potential problems before they lead to a breakdown. Even a 1% increase in uptime could save you thousands of dollars. *
SCIEX technicians perform the system optimization and calibration remotely without being physically present. This proactive remote service can lower maintenance costs by reducing the need for on-site visits, which is particularly beneficial for labs with tight budgets.
* Based on the number of samples run daily and cost or revenue per sample.
The optimization and calibration procedure is designed to ensure that the system parameters are properly optimized and that the system is operating at the optimum performance level.
Completed documentation is provided as part of this procedure.
Pre-optimization system tests to determine system performance.
Testing performed to determine the presence of front-end contamination.
Verified system parameters (optimized as necessary)

To deliver Remote Instrument Optimization and Calibration, a SCIEX service representative will connect remotely to your instrument acquisition PC via the Bomgar remote support tool.
Bomgar is a remote access solution that ensures data remains private and secure during your session. To access it, browse the provided link and connect with a SCIEX service team member.
You will work collaboratively with a SCIEX service representative to establish the remote session and will be asked to configure the system to deliver the calibration and tuning solutions. Connect the syringe and infusion line with calibration solutions to start the procedure.
Additional steps may be necessary if an issue is identified during the procedure. Your SCIEX representative can provide insights and recommendations and assist in connecting you with any required services based on the outcome of the remote instrument optimization and calibration service.
If the instrument requires on-site repair and a service contract does not cover the visit, SCIEX offers many options, including fixed-price or on-demand services. Please work with your SCIEX representative to find a solution that fits your needs, or contact us to learn more about the options.
The procedure is expected to take one to two hours. Utilizing remote delivery makes it an economical and convenient solution to proactive instrument tuning and calibration with support from SCIEX experts.
System parameters like ion energy and detector voltages are checked and optimized during calibration and evaluation if necessary.
SCIEX recommends calibration and resolution optimization every three to six months. Routine evaluation ensures that the system parameters are correctly optimized and operate at the optimum performance level. Please refer to your instrument user guide for more details.
The Remote Instrument Optimization and Calibration service is available for the following SCIEX systems:
QTRAP 3200, QTRAP 4000, API 5000, QTRAP 4500, Triple Quad 4500, Triple Quad 5500 and 5500+, QTRAP 6500, Triple Quad 6500 and 6500+, Triple Quad 7500 and 7500+
We will need the necessary calibration solutions, a syringe and tubing for infusion, and remote access to the instrument computer. The ideal time for optimization and calibration is after completing routine maintenance, such as front-end cleaning.
We offer hands-on upskill training via the SCIEX Now Learning Hub, giving you confidence that your laboratory technicians can check MS parameters to identify the need for calibration and system assessment in a timely manner. Learn more about LC-MS troubleshooting and maintenance courses here.
Remote Instrument Optimization and Calibration is an efficient way for a SCIEX service team member to help you confidently assess system parameters and instrument performance.
It is not intended to replace a planned maintenance (PM) procedure, an operational qualification (OQ), or verify the mass spectrometer's specifications.
The remote system optimization service can be purchased with any service contract or as a stand-alone product for an economical and quick instrument tuning and calibration solution. Contact us to learn more about the available service packages.
