Answer
The sample matrices that can be supported on the Echo® MS System must correspond to one of the supported liquid classes. The liquid class is used to adapt the sound pulses to the kind of sample that is in the plate to ensure good droplet formation. The two liquid classes that are supported on the Echo MS System are AQ and SP. AQ is for aqueous buffers with surface tensions higher than water that cause a shallowing of the meniscus relative to 100% water. SP stands for for aqueous buffers containing surfactant that also have surface tensions lower than water and a deepening of the meniscus relative to 100% water.
