Answer

Uninstalling NI Drivers for SCIEX Mass Spectrometers

If you're not using any National Instruments (NI) hardware as part of your Mass Spec system setup, you may safely uninstall the NI Drivers.
A common NI hardware component used with SCIEX Mass Spectrometers is the GPIB-USB interface.

To uninstall the NI Drivers:

  1. Open the Windows Start Menu.
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps(or search for “Add or Remove Programs”).
  3. Locate any software labeled NI or National Instruments.
  4. Select the relevant item(s) and click Uninstall.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Note: Only uninstall NI Drivers if you're certain no NI hardware is in use. If unsure, consult your system administrator or SCIEX support.

How do I know if I use GPIB USB communication or plan to use it?

1. Look for the Hardware (Simple and easy check)

  • Check if your setup includes a NI GPIB-USB-HS or NI GPIB-USB-HS+ adapter.
  • It typically connects from your instrument’s GPIB port to your computer’s USB port.
  • The adapter will have a National Instruments logo and a GPIB connector.

2. Check Installed Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager (Windows).
  • Under IEEE 488.2 Devices or NI GPIB Devices, look for:
    • NI GPIB-USB-HS
  • If present, the driver is installed and the device is recognized.
