Answer
Ammonium fluoride (AMF) can be used in LC/MS applications as a mobile phase additive. It is recommended that only small concentrations be used (around 0.2 mM).
Several solvents blanks should be injected after your run to help flush the lines and keep your HPLC and MS instrument clean and to reduce high backgrounds.
A capped glass bottle should also be used for waste collection.Â
AMF can convert to the hazardous hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas at high temperatures in the MS source. Also, proper disposal of the eluent waste is required because HF may be produced in the waste container due to mixing of the mobile phase components with other compounds.Â
