Answer

Understanding Wiff and Wiff2 Files in SCIEX OS
SCIEX OS generates two types of data files: wiff and wiff2. Wiff2 files serve as the primary data format within SCIEX OS, while wiff files are created for backward compatibility with legacy applications such as Analyst and MultiQuant (MQ).

Wiff2 Files: Built-In Data Integrity
The new generation of wiff2 files incorporates advanced data integrity mechanisms, including encryption and internal validation. These features eliminate the need for external checksum verification, making the checksum feature unnecessary for wiff2 files.

Wiff Files: External Checksum Requirement
For legacy applications that rely on wiff files, external checksum enablement is required to ensure data integrity.

Behavior of Corrupted Wiff2 Files
When a tampered wiff2 file s opened in Explorer or Analytics:
- The samples within the corrupted file will not be displayed.
- The dropdown arrow or “+” sign next to the file will be disabled, indicating that the file contents are inaccessible due to integrity issues.

Error Handling for Corrupted Wiff2 Files
If a user attempts to proceed with a corrupted wiff2 file, error messages will be displayed.

Note: In Explorer, it may not be possible to proceed with a corrupt file.
