Answer

To install SCIEX OS software successfully, the Installation Guide should be consulted and each section should be read prior to installing the software. After installation, restart the PC and for acquisition PC also reset the mass spectrometer. A new Installation Repair tool is provided to check that the installation of the software was correctly done (see installation guide).

Some of the common installation errors that occur when installing the software are:
  1. The user was not signed into Windows with administrative rights. Please refer to the knowledge article in the following link to determine if the Windows user is an administrator on his PC: Checking for Administrator Rights on a Windows 10 PC before Installing Analyst®/SCIEX OS software
  2. The Windows language settings were not set to the correct supported language. For acquisition, only the English operating system is supported. For processing workstations (SCIEX OS-Q and SCIEX OS-MQ), the English, French, German, and Italian languages are supported. To change the language settings on Windows 10, close all running applications. Then open the Windows Settings screen and select Time and Language. In the Region & Language menu, select English (United States) in the drop down menu.
  3. The SCIEX OS software language settings were not set to the correct supported language in the software. SCIEX OS software 3.0 and higher is now available in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Simplified Chinese. The display language is user-configurable in the Configuration tile in the General tab.
  4. Antivirus software such as Symantec or McAfee interfered during the installation and unzipping of the downloaded software files. The article in the link provides guidance on using antivirus software with SCIEX software. https://sciex.com/support/product-security/general-security-guidance
  5. The version of Microsoft Visual C++ installed on the computer is older than the version distributed with SCIEX OS software. To resolve this, newer Microsoft C++ files must be removed first including C++ 2013, 2017 for older SCIEX OS software versions 1.x. Removal of C++ 2015-2019 for new SCIEX OS versions 2 till 3.x may be required.
  6. Windows features for .NET framework files higher than 4.6 were not disabled. To turn off the higher versions of .NET framework, follow these steps: a) Browse to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. b) On the left side, click on Turn Windows features on or off. c) Click the + symbol next to .NET framework 4.6 Advanced Services. d) Uncheck the NET Framework file version. e) Click the OK button. f) Close Programs and Features window and restart the computer.
  7. The Microsoft Office version is not supported. For more information, consult the installation guide for the version of SCIEX OS being installed. SCIEX OS software requires Microsoft Office 2013, 2016, or 2021, 32-bit or 64-bit, to create, open, and edit the report templates used in the Analytics workspace. SCIEX OS is compatible with Microsoft Office 365 for all functions except creating, opening, and editing the report templates used in the Analytics workspace. Note: Alpha and SCIEX workstations with LTSB/LTSC Windows 10 Operating systems are not compatible with Microsoft Office 365.
  8. Smart Monitor was preventing the SCIEX OS software from launching. To turn it off: a) Search for and click on the Control Panel in the Metro App List. b) Select System and Security. c) Select Action Center. d) Expand the security list, scroll down, and select Change Settings under SmartScreen Options. e) Enter your computer password if prompted. f) Select Turn Off Windows SmartScreen and click Ok.
  9. The additional drivers for the acquisition PC of the X500 QTOF systems and ZenoTOF systems were not installed (see installation guide).
