Packaging Compliance in United Kingdom

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in United Kingdom

Under the United Kingdom (UK) packaging regulations, packaging producers 'handling' more than 50 tonnes of packaging within the UK market per year and that have an annual turnover of more than £2 million, are required to finance the recovery and recycling of packaging waste according to the weights of packaging materials they handle. They must demonstrate financing through the purchase of Packaging Recovery Notes (PRNs). Most producers fulfil this requirement as a member of a local packaging compliance scheme.

SCIEX does not currently meet the 'packaging handled' threshold of 50 tonnes and is therefore not currently required to purchse PRNs, for example through membership to a local packaging compliance scheme. However, SCIEX monitors the weight of packaging handled in the UK closely, and when SCIEX handles more than 50 tonnes of packaging in the UK in a year, SCIEX will join a local packaging compliance scheme.
