Quantitate chloramphenicol in seafood and dairy productsÂ
This iMethodâ„¢ Application provides a method for the routine quantitation of chloramphenicol in seafood and dairy products. Chloramphenicol (CAP) an antibiotic, was formerly widely-used in veterinary medicine due to its broad range of activity and low cost. The treatment of animals used for production of food with CAP is prohibited in the European Union and United States because of the side effects in humans; in particular, it can potentially cause fatal aplastic anemia. Thus, it is necessary to control residues of CAP in edible tissues, like milk and milk products.
Examples of sample preparation procedures are provided for milk, milk powder, honey, fish, and seafood. While the actual protocol used is dependent upon the sample matrix, most protocols are based upon homogenization, centrifugation, extraction and dilution. Deuterated chloramphenicol is added as an internal standard during sample preparation to monitor sample recovery. More in-depth sample preparation, instrument configuration, and setting information is included with this iMethod™ Application, upon purchase.
The SCIEX iMethodâ„¢ Application for the quantitation of chloramphenicol is configured for use on the SCIEX 3200 and 4000 Series instrumentation.
The list of available iMethod™ Applications located in the iMethod™ Store is continually updated with the newest user-contributed and SCIEX lab-proven methods, so you can take immediate advantage of the latest advances. All iMethod™ Applications for food analysis are available for individual purchase or as part of one of our complete starter packs for food safety testing.
