β-Lactam antibiotics are the most widely used class of drugs for the treatment of bacterial infections in human for many years. As antibiotic resistance can be an issue, rapid methods of analysis are needed. Here, a method for rapid LC-MS/MS quantification of 9 B-lactam antibiotics in human samples on the SCIEX QTRAP 4500 System was developed. The method uses a simple protein precipitation and fast chromatography and provides sensitivity, linearity, and robustness for such analysis in plasma samples.

An LC-MS/MS method is described for the analysis of bongkrekic acid (BA) toxin in rice noodles and Tremella mushrooms using the SCIEX Triple Quad 4500 system. The method showed that 1 ng/g matrix spikes, in rice noodle and Tremella, had mean recoveries ranging from 75% to 110% and mean precision ranging from 1.2%CV to 3.2%CV. Good linearity was shown in the calibration standards ranging from 0.05 ng/mL to 10 ng/mL. Overall, the technical note showed a sensitive method to monitor for bongkrekic acid toxin in food.
